Hors de Prix (Priceless)

Miss White & I watched Hors de Prix last night. The first thing that struck me were the opening titles, a lovely illustrative styled animation, reminding me of the old Saul Bass work though uniquely delightful. The film itself... I must say it was hugely enjoyable, charming French romcom with fantastic performances from Audrey Tautou and Gad Elmaleh. For me it felt like a throwback to films such as the classic Breakfast at Tiffany's, with Audrey Tautou playing a character that shares many similarites to Audrey Hepburns' Holly Golightly.

Disney sent out these extravagant press releases for the up and coming Alice In Wonderland movie. The idea, similar to a russian doll, the press release is a cardboard box containing a large hard-backed, gilt-edged book, inside that was another book just like it only smaller, inside that, another book... yes you guessed it, just like it only smaller and so on until you get to a cavity containing a USB stick disguised as a metal key, with a tag tied to it with the words 'Read Me' written on it. The key contained images from Tim Burton’s forthcoming film and a trailer. (images courtesy of Esquire magazine).

Alice In Wonderland. Disney's most lavish Press Release.

Timecrimes

I would highly recommend the movie 'Timecrimes'. I love time travel movies, I love the way you are required to get your head around the events happening, how they started and how they end, or if there was ever a start or an end in the first place, a real paradox mind-f**k. The film 'Primer' is my favourite in this genre, and once watched, google the timeline... it will blow your mind, however, 'Timecrimes' is well worth a look.

'Timecrimes' (or Los Cronocrímenes in spanish) starts off with a man called Hectarmoving to a new house with his wife. One evening, while he's looking through his binoculars, he sees a naked girl in the woods. He decides to go there just to find that same girl laying on a rock... I won't give anymore away but check out the trailer and get yourself a copy.

We went to see Breakestra last night at the Norwich Arts Centre... the bad points about the gig is Mixmaster Wolf wasn't there on the night, I had to stop dancing an hour and half into it (yep it was that long) because I was dying to use the toilet, and my right ear drum feels very damaged today... the good point was it's easily the best gig I have ever been to... period! This has now raised the standards of gigs so high I'm concerned I will be disappointed with anything else, if you get the chance to see them, don't hesitate, get a ticket!

You can check out a few photos I shot on the night here, unfortunately I couldn't get any other angles ;)

Breakestra Live - We brought the love, they brought the funk!
